The former site of the Hejia Township Soviet Government (Yongfu Hall at Xujia Dunshang) is located in Xujia Village, Gaopi Town, dating back to 1929.
“Yongfu Hall” was built during the Shunzhi period of the Qing Dynasty (1644–1661), covering a land area of 726.11 square meters and a construction area of 1,264.03 square meters. The main building faces northeast and is situated southwest, with the entrance facing south and north. The main structure has four floors plus an additional level, with eaves extending two meters outward. It features eight rooms and two halls arranged symmetrically, spanning 22.3 meters in width and 7.4 meters in depth. There are two Chinese fir staircases, wooden floorboards 32 mm thick, upper and lower sills connected with overlapping joints, secured by bamboo nails, and featuring a tulou-style hip-and-gable roof. The main hall has four nanmu pillars with diameters of 20 cm, stone bases that are round on top and square at the bottom, and stained glass lattice panels set between two of the pillars. Each side has two kitchen rooms, both two stories high. In early August 1929, Mao Zedong, accompanied by He Zizhen, traveled from Hugang through Xujia to Yongding for rest and to guide revolutionary struggles. During this time, he directed the township Soviet government at Yongfu Hall in establishing political power and organizing armed resistance. In autumn 1930, after the completion of the CCP’s Red Transport Line, Yongfu Hall became an important transit station. After the Third Encirclement Campaign in August 1931, when the Taiping Soviet Area fell, the Taiping District Committee and District Soviet Government relocated to Hejia Township and stationed themselves at Yongfu Hall, continuing the fight. In 1934, under the guidance of Zhang Dingcheng, the Taiping District Work Group and guerrilla forces established a base in Xujia, forming the Yongtai Special District Party Committee and the Yongtai Special District Guerrilla Unit, which were stationed in tulou buildings including Yongfu Hall. After the Long March, in February 1935, Zhang Dingcheng returned to Yongding to lead the guerrilla war. Passing through Gaopi and Xujia, he reorganized the Yongtai Special District Committee into the Yongtai County Committee at Yongfu Hall.
