The former site of the Hejia Soviet Government (Xu Jia Shangshan Dafu Mansion) is a cultural relic protection unit of Yongding District.
The former site of the Hejia Soviet Government (Xu Jia Shangshan Dafu Mansion) is located in Xu Jia Village, Gaopi Town, dating back to 1929.
The Dafu Mansion is located in Xu Jia Village, Gaopi Town (an old revolutionary base village on Shangshan), built in the mid-to-late Qing Dynasty (around 1820). It features a civil structure and a quadrangle courtyard, covering an area of approximately 500 square meters, with a built-up area of about 1,500 square meters. The building faces southeast and is situated northwest, with a front hall retaining wall about 50 meters long and 10 meters high, constructed using large mountain stones (known as "copper-skinned and iron-boned") in a dry-laid method. The central plaque above the main gate is inscribed with the characters “Dafu Mansion” in regular script. The front hall and main building have six rooms on the lower level and extend four stories high. On both sides are kitchens, and the square courtyard includes a water pool. The wing rooms were used as schoolhouses for running private schools, educating children from poor families. From August to October 1929, Mao Zedong, under the alias Mr. Yang, visited twice with his wife He Zizhen via the Central Red Transportation Route, traveling from the Hejia Soviet Government through Yongding and Shanghang to guide revolutionary work. In December 1931, due to the growing enemy threat, the CPC Taiping District Committee and the District Soviet Government moved to Hejia to continue their struggle. In 1933, the Nationalist 15th Route Army occupied the Taiping District. In the spring of 1934, the Taiping District Work Group and guerrilla forces established under the guidance of Zhang Dingcheng moved into the Taiping District stronghold at Hejia Soviet Government, joining forces with the troops of Xu Yongrong and Zhang Dongxiu who were continuing the fight there. Jiang Wenbo served as the captain, and Chen Xuanwen as the political commissar. In May 1934, the “CPC Yongtai Special District Committee” and the “Yongtai Special District Red Army Guerrilla Forces” were established in Hejia, with Ma Yongchang serving as secretary and political commissar, Zhang Dongxiu as captain, Jiang Wenbo as deputy political commissar, Qiu Xiangtian as organizational committee member, and Lin Rita as propaganda committee member. Prior to this, the Taiping Central District Committee, established by the Eighth Red Army Regiment in Youwan Village of the guerrilla zone (now Hongfang Youyuan), was incorporated into the Yongtai Special District Committee.
