The former residence of Academician Lu Yanhao (Shengde Hall) is a cultural relic protection unit of Yongding District.

The former residence of Academician Lu Yanhao (Shengde Hall) is located on Kanshi Street in Kanshi Town, dating back to the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty (1796–1820).

Kanshi’s “Shengde Hall,” commonly known as “Yunzhuang Tower,” was the former residence of Lu Yanhao, an academician and senior member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is located in Xiyuan Natural Village on Kanshi Street in Kanshi Town. Originally built during the Jiaqing era (1796–1820), the building was purchased in its entirety from the original owner, nicknamed “Pao Wan,” by the 16th-generation patriarch Lu Yungzhuang (given name Hong, courtesy name Linzhai) during the Daoguang era (1821–1850) after he made his fortune trading tobacco in Sichuan. Following careful renovation and remodeling, it became a “Five Phoenix Tower.” The structure is spacious, magnificent, richly adorned with carved beams and painted rafters, exuding grandeur and splendor. The building once featured a dedicated “schoolhouse.” Covering an area of 2,800 square meters, it has an earth-and-timber structure, faces west, and was originally a three-courtyard, four-section building with wing rooms on both sides. Today, only the entrance hall, main hall, and left wing room remain. It features a flush-gable roof with purlins resting on gable walls. The interior still retains a large number of wood carvings, stone carvings, and painted decorations.

Protected Area: To the east, up to the drip line of the rear enclosure’s overhanging eaves; to the west, up to the edge of the ditch beside the stone path leading to the town government outside the perimeter wall; to the south, up to the stone path outside the perimeter wall; to the north, up to 10 meters beyond the drip line of the overhanging eaves of the right wing wall.
