Huyao Guanghe Building

Huyao Guanghe Building is a cultural relic protection unit of Yongding District.

Huyao Guanghe Building is located in Guanghe Building, Hulei Town, dating back to 1929.

Guanghe Building is situated in the center of Huyao Village, Hulei Town. It was first constructed in the 33rd year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1907) after the 21st-generation descendant of the Lai family in Huyao, Hanxian, prospered from the “tiao si yan” (a type of fine-cut tobacco) business. Covering an area of 420 square meters, the building is made of earth and wood, facing southwest and backing northeast, with a single-entry corridor-style layout that includes a front courtyard. It features a flush-gable roof with purlins supported on gable walls. The gate tower is exquisitely carved with dragons and phoenixes, presenting a majestic appearance. The main building’s gate lintel is inscribed with the three large characters “Guang He Lou” (广和楼), while the side plaques read “Filial Piety and Brotherhood” (孝弟) and “Loyalty and Trustworthiness” (忠信). Though the words “Civil Studies” (文经) and “Military Arts” (武纬) on the gate panels have been smeared with lime and scraped with blades, the characters are still faintly visible. Inside the building, a large number of Red Army slogans remain. In May 1929, it served as the first stop of the Fourth Red Army, led by Mao Zedong and Zhu De, during their second advance into Fujian. Here they carried out land revolution, armed struggle, and established revolutionary Soviet political power — a momentous revolutionary practice. A historically significant expanded meeting of the Fourth Red Army Front Committee was held here, attended by local Party members, cadres, and Red Guards. The “Hulei District Revolutionary Committee” was formed, providing strong organizational support and a solid reserve of cadres for the advancement of the land revolution in Yongding.

Protected Area: Extending 5 meters beyond the exterior walls on the east, west, and south sides, and 10 meters beyond the north exterior wall.

Construction Control Zone: Extending 20 meters outward from the boundary of the protected area.

Hulei Town: Hulei Town is located in the central part of the county, along the middle reaches of the Yongding River. It borders Fushi Town to the east, Qiling Township and Chengjiao Township to the south, Xixi Township and Hexi Township to the west, and Tangbao Township and Kan Town to the north, covering an area of 160.9 square kilometers. In 1992, the township was upgraded to a town. The town government is located in Xiahu Village, 12 kilometers from the county seat. In 2000, there were 27 village committees, 289 villager groups (including 46 revolutionary base villages), 11,047 households, and 40,167 people.
