Guan Di Archway

The Guan Di Archway is located on the western section of Xianqian Street in Nan Zhao Town. It was built in the fifth year of the Tianqi era during the Ming Dynasty (1625) and renovated in the fifty-eighth year of the Qianlong era during the Qing Dynasty (1793). The archway faces south and is constructed from granite in imitation of wooden architecture. It has three tiers and one bay, stands 5.5 meters tall and 4 meters wide, and features a single-eave hip-and-gable roof combined with a double-sloped roof. The plaque on the front is 0.50 meters tall and 1.40 meters wide, inscribed in regular script with the characters “Guan Di Archway” (关帝坊), along with the note “Erected jointly by Zhu Xun, magistrate of Zhao’an County, and Zhang Shengwu, official seal keeper of Nan Zhao Post, both from Chu Jing.” The upper beam is inscribed with “Erected on a lucky day in early winter, the Year of Yichou, Tianqi 5 (1625)”; the right stone pillar is engraved with “The temple archway was damaged by wind and rain, and was repaired in April of the fifty-eighth year of Qianlong (1793)…”
