Xiting Guanyin Nunnery

Xiting Guanyin Nunnery is located at the western end of West Qianjie Street in NanZhao Town. Originally built during the Ming Dynasty, it covers an area of about 400 square meters. The nunnery faces north and has three bays in width and two bays in depth, consisting of a gate tower, a courtyard, and a main hall. The main hall features a single-eave suspended roof, a post-and-lintel wooden structure with thirteen purlins along the front corridor, bracket sets in the one-dou-three-sheng style, and spindle-shaped stone columns. It was expanded during the Qing Dynasty to include a rear hall, which faces south and backs onto the main hall. The courtyard in front of the rear hall is enclosed by an outer wall, with access through a side gate on the west. The rear hall is three bays wide and one bay deep, measuring 6 meters in depth. It has a post-and-lintel wooden structure and bracket sets in the one-dou-three-sheng style. The nunnery retains architectural features from the Qing Dynasty. The front hall enshrines the Tathagata Buddha and the Eighteen Arhats, while the rear hall is dedicated to Guanyin (the Goddess of Mercy).
