Ancestral Temple of Martyr Changtian

The Ancestral Temple of Martyr Changtian is a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province.

The Ancestral Temple of Martyr Changtian is located in Changtian Natural Village, Hunei Village, Jinxing Township, Zhao’an County, and dates back to the Ming Dynasty.

Description: Originally built during the Chenghua era of the Ming Dynasty (1465–1487), it is a memorial temple dedicated to Shen Zhou, a local notable of the Ming period. Oriented from northwest to southeast, the temple covers a construction area of 623 square meters and features a “tong”-shaped layout composed of a front hall, courtyard, main hall, and side corridors. The main gate of the front hall bears a stone plaque inscribed with the characters “Ancestral Temple of Martyrs” in regular script, and the door lintel sides and central bay retain early-period plaster reliefs and colored paintings. The main hall is three bays wide and three bays deep, with a flush gable roof and a mixed post-and-lintel and bracket-arm wooden structure. The stone pillars are tapered, narrowing toward the top and bottom, and the beams and painted decorations largely preserve the early appearance of the temple.

In 2018, the Ancestral Temple of Martyr Changtian was designated as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

Hunei Village: Located at the foot of Jiuhou Mountain in Jinxing Township, Hunei Village has 1,136 households, a total population of 4,262, and 90 Party members. The village has 3,800 mu of arable land. Its economy is primarily based on fruit and vegetable cultivation, cash crop production, and migrant work. In recent years, with strong support from the township Party committee and government, the whole village has united to comprehensively advance the construction of a new socialist countryside.
