Dongcheng Mingxian Ancestral Hall

The Dongcheng Mingxian Ancestral Hall is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

The Dongcheng Mingxian Ancestral Hall is located in Dongcheng Village, Nanzhao Town, Zhao’an County, and dates back to the Qing Dynasty.

Introduction: It was rebuilt during the Xianfeng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1851–1862). Facing south and situated to the north, the hall complex consists of a front hall, main hall, central courtyard, and side corridors, covering a construction area of 473 square meters. The front hall is five bays wide and two bays deep, while the main hall is five bays wide and three bays deep, both featuring post-and-lintel and through-tenon beam frameworks with flush gable roofs.

In 2013, the Dongcheng Mingxian Ancestral Hall was designated as part of the eighth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

Protected area: The drip line of the gable walls extends 3 meters eastward and westward; the southern boundary extends 25 meters from the drip line of the front hall’s eaves; the northern boundary extends 3 meters from the back of the screen wall.

Nanzhao Town: Nanzhao Town is located in the southern part of Zhao’an County, bordering the East Creek to the east. It serves as the economic, political, and cultural center of Zhao’an County, and is recognized as the “Hometown of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Art” and the “Hometown of Chinese Folk Culture and Art.” It is also a provincial-level “Civilized Town,” “Commercial and Trade Hub Town,” and “Ecological Township.” The town currently covers an area of 17.5 square kilometers, with a planned area of 36.7 square kilometers. It administers 15 communities and 2 administrative villages, with a total population of approximately 81,000. In 2015, the total rural economic income was 261.11 million yuan, and the per capita net income of farmers was 14,000 yuan.
