Dongyang Building

Dongyang Building is a cultural tourism attraction.

Dongyang Building is located to the west of Nanyang Building. Constructed in the 22nd year of the Jiaqing reign during the Qing Dynasty (1817), it was built by Jiang Zongsi, a grand scholar and grandson of Jiang Shixiong, the builder of Eryi Building. It is a square earthen building, commonly known as "Lion Cub Stepping on Print" due to its location at the foot of Lion-shaped Mountain south of Eryi Building. Oriented from northwest to southeast, it covers an area of 2,200 square meters. The structure has two stories and is 11 meters high, with a width of 45.81 meters and a depth of 26 meters. The entire building is higher in the back and lower in the front, with clearly defined hierarchy. It features an internal corridor layout. The main building includes 36 residential rooms and 4 halls. Currently, there are 13 households and 47 residents.

The gate wall is built with finely polished granite, featuring a design that is lower in the front and higher in the back, reflecting a clear hierarchical structure. Two horizontal corridors separate the upper hall, lower hall, and side rooms. Small doors at both ends of the corridors lead to the kitchen and dining area. This architectural design effectively minimizes the interference of cooking fumes and stir-frying odors in the living spaces. The ancestral tablets are placed in the rear hall on the second floor. The rear hall on the first floor serves as a venue for wedding ceremonies. The rooms in Dongyang Building are relatively narrow horizontally, with side rooms only 2.5 meters wide and the main rooms just 2.8 meters, while depths vary between 5.9 meters and 4.5 meters. The ceiling height reaches 3.8 meters. The design concept of this building has shifted from being primarily defensive to focusing on comfort.

In front of Dongyang Building is a courtyard paved with cobblestones, enclosed by a stone wall along the edges. Inside the wall is a well, and outside is a path. A small door opens to the east, and to the south lies a semicircular lotus pond.
