Yangzhujing Umbrella Building

The Yangzhujing Umbrella Building is a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province.

The Yangzhujing Umbrella Building is located in Yangzhujing Village, Gaoche Township, Hua’an County, dating back to the Qing Dynasty.

Description: Originally built during the Yuan Dynasty, the existing structure is from the Qing Dynasty. The tulou faces east and sits westward, representing a variant of the double-ring, unit-style tulou. The outer ring has a diameter of 27 meters, and the inner ring a diameter of 13 meters, covering an area of 3,155 square meters. The outer ring is three stories high, featuring 32 bays, with entrance gates on the eastern and southern sides; the inner ring is two stories high, including 18 units with connecting passageways, each with its own staircase, all single-bay units. The inner ring includes a central courtyard paved with pebbles. Both the inner and outer rings have simple wooden beam frames, board-tiled roofs, and deeply overhanging eaves inside and out. The tulou is built atop a relatively isolated hill within a mountain valley, constructed against the slope, causing the outer ring to be lower than the inner ring due to the natural terrain.

In 2013, the Yangzhujing Umbrella Building was designated as part of the eighth batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

Protected area: A 30-meter buffer zone extends outward from the outer ring of the tulou.
