Hu'an Red Army Cave

The Hu'an Red Army Cave is a classic site of red tourism.

The Red Army Caves are located in Dapiantou and Pingdouzai Banxikeng in Pingdong Village, Gao'an Town, Hu'an County.

Zou Tianbao, born in August 1901, and Zou Tianshui, born in September 1907, were both from Pingdong Village, Hu'an County. During the Agrarian Revolutionary War, they joined the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army in Longyan in 1929 and 1930 respectively. Zou Tianbao and Zou Tianshui successively served as bodyguards to Hu Shaohai and participated in battles such as the assault on Yongfu and Zhangzhou. After graduating from the Red Army School, Zou Tianshui became the head of the headquarters of the Ting-Zhang-Long United Red Guards and led Red Army forces in battles across Fujian and Jiangxi. After the Long March of the Central Red Army, he remained in western Fujian to continue the struggle. In June 1936, to support the guerrilla warfare in western Fujian, Zou Tianshui was ordered to return to Hu'an to organize the Zhang-Long Red Guards and served as its commander, carrying out revolutionary activities under the guise of a “hunting team.” When Zou Tianbao and Zou Tianshui returned from western Fujian to Hu'an, they brought back one military flag inscribed “Headquarters of the Ting-Zhang-Long United Red Guards of the Fourth Red Army,” one seal reading “Seal of the Headquarters of the Ting-Zhang-Long United Red Guards of the Fourth Red Army,” four pistols, one rifle, straw hats, Red Army badges, armbands, leaflets, and other items. These were hidden separately in two caves located in Dapiantou and Pingdouzai Banxikeng in Pingdong Village, Gao'an Town. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Zou Tianbao and Zou Tianshui voluntarily donated the revolutionary relics from the caves to the state, and they are now preserved at the National Museum of China in Beijing. On July 18, 1953, the People’s Daily reported on their act of donating the cultural relics.

The Dapiantou Red Army Cave and Pingdouzai Banxikeng Red Army Cave were designated as cultural relic protection units of Hu'an County by the Hu'an County People's Government in March 1985.
