The Battle Site of Yupingyu Peak is located in Hulin Village, Hulin Township, Hua'an County. In September 1949, Chen Zhiguang, commander of the Guard Company of the 5th Battalion, 4th Regiment, 8th Detachment of the Minyuegan Border Column of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, led a team of over 40 soldiers to engage in a fierce battle against the KMT militia in Hua'an. At that time, as the PLA advanced towards Zhangzhou and Xiamen, the KMT regime in Hua'an County was on the verge of collapse. The Guard Company was preparing to liberate Hua'an. The troops set off from Zhangping and arrived at Hankou, on the border between the two counties. To rescue the Hulin residents besieged by the Anxi militia, they headed straight for Hulin. By the time they reached Hulin, the Anxi militia had already withdrawn. The troops immediately captured the earthen fortress at Hougewei, held by the leader of the Hulin Militia Battalion, Chen Wunwu, and took up positions along the Yupingyu Natural Village line. The soldiers informed local residents and those from Xibei Village about the war situation, posted slogans, and explained that national liberation was imminent, which had a profound impact on the people of Hulin. The troops stayed in Hulin for over ten days.
