Former Residence of Yang Yude

The former residence of Yang Yude is a classic red tourism attraction.

The former residence of Yang Yude is located on Chaoyang Road, Neijiao Village, Fengshan Town, Hua’an County.

Yang Yude was a native of Neijiao Village, Fengshan Town, Hua’an County. After graduating from junior high school in early 1927, he went to the Normal Department of High School at Jinan University in Shanghai. Influenced by progressive ideas, he joined the Communist Youth League and later became a member of the Communist Party. Due to his active participation in revolutionary activities, his identity was exposed, so the organization arranged for him to return to Fengshan. There, he utilized the influence of his family in the area to carry out underground revolutionary activities at the appropriate time. During the Dragon Boat Festival in 1929, he organized a farmers’ association in his hometown, recruiting two to three hundred members, established evening schools, and formed a guerrilla unit in Pulin, donating weapons from his home for the guerrillas to use. In the early summer of 1930, the farmers’ association and guerrilla unit in Fengshan participated in the North-South Township Uprising led by the Central Committee of Zhangzhou and Wang Jianchun. Under the command of the North Township District Committee, he led members of the Fengshan Farmers’ Association and local villagers to destroy the Fushan bus station and set vehicles on fire. Due to the enemy’s superior strength, poor organization, and the infiltration of bad elements within the farmers’ association and guerrilla forces, the uprising was eventually suppressed by reactionary forces. To evade arrest by the authorities, Yang Yude was forced to flee to Bali Island in Southeast Asia. In 1932, upon learning that the Red Army had entered Zhangzhou, he returned to China and taught at Xiawen Primary School in Zhangzhou. He also took part in the revolutionary activities of the Xiangchao Drama Society organized by Fang Yi. In 1935, due to being hunted by enemies, he once again fled to Southeast Asia. In 1936, after returning to Zhangzhou where he taught for a year at Chongzheng Middle School, he became the principal of a primary school in Fengshan. During his teaching period, he encouraged farmers to reduce rents and taxes, and tried to prevent undercover agents from conducting espionage activities, which incurred the hatred of reactionary elements. He was kicked in the eyes by Huang Yuding, the leader of a local militia, resulting in blindness.

The former residence of Yang Yude faces east and is situated to the west. It covers a construction area of 917.5 square meters, consisting of a two-courtyard, three-bay, two-entry-level building with a single-story structure. It is built with brick and wood, with corridors connecting both sides of the upper and lower halls, and one wing room on each side of the lower hall. The building has suffered severe damage due to long-term neglect, including issues such as water leakage.
