Egret Island Scenic Area in Laian County is located 13 kilometers northwest of Laian County and 50 kilometers from the ancient capital Nanjing. The scenic area covers a total area of 42,000 mu, with a forest coverage rate of 90%, and is a provincial-level forest park. In recent years, the Laian County government has been working to develop Egret Island Scenic Area into a national-level forest park that integrates leisure and entertainment, tourism and vacation, as well as the buying and selling of flowers, fruits, tea, and birds—based on the principle of “creating premium products, cultivating unique features, targeting Nanjing, Hefei, and Yangzhou, and attracting visitors from Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, and Shanghai.”

Nestled within the unique geographical setting of the subtropical monsoon climate and the Jianghuai watershed divide, Egret Island Scenic Area boasts fresh air and a pleasant climate, with naturally stunning mountain forests. In spring, wildflowers bloom in vibrant colors with intoxicating fragrances; in summer, clouds steam and mists rise over endless greenery; in autumn, forests are painted in layers of color, with red maples blazing like fire; in winter, the land is draped in silvery white. From Qingming Festival to Bailu period every year, tens of thousands of egrets gather here, creating a spectacular and uniquely beautiful scene reminiscent of the poetic lines “startled, they fly far, their reflections vanishing into blue mountains, while pear blossoms fall in the evening wind.” The lush peaks of Lianzi Mountain, the charming beauty of Shunge Mountain, the cave-heaven landscape of Lianzi Lake, the rippling waters of Shunge Lake, the Grand Temple surrounded by bamboo groves, the incense-filled Peacock Temple, the naturally carved One-Line Sky, the classic Chinese-style Egret-Watching Pavilion, the ever-changing Sunset Peak, the legendary Tomb of the Chief Minister, the majestic ancient battlefield from the war against the Jin, the thousand-year-old tree cradling its “child” in its embrace, the murmuring Guanyin Spring, the soft and expansive natural sandy beach, the Mu Guiying Horse-Riding Trail perched midway up the mountain, the Fire-Watching Tower offering views and moon-gazing, the colorful array of exotic flowers and plants, the diverse species of rare birds and animals, and the lush forests of ten thousand mu all contribute to the exceptional tourism value of Egret Island Scenic Area. It is an ideal destination for sightseeing, leisure vacations, historical exploration, and returning to nature.

Egret Island Ecotourism Area is located in the northern subtropical climatic zone, featuring a mild climate, distinct four seasons, and synchronized water and heat cycles. It is characterized by cool summers, mild winters, a temperate and humid environment, and clearly defined seasons. The annual average temperature is 14.9°C.

The area receives about 2,100 hours of sunshine annually, with approximately 110 rainy days per year. The average relative humidity is 75%, and the absolute humidity is 15.3 mb.
