Suzhou Museum

Suzhou Museum is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a patriotic education base.

Suzhou Museum, located opposite the Suzhou Municipal Government Center, covers an area of 50 acres with a construction area of 10,000 square meters. It was completed and opened to the public in October 2010. The architectural style incorporates elements of Han culture, featuring a high-platform, grand-roof design inspired by Han dynasty architecture, marble exterior walls, and a facade adorned with bas-reliefs derived from Han dynasty stone carvings, giving it a solemn and classic appearance.

The museum has three floors: The first floor houses the storage area, offices, temporary exhibition halls, and the Folk Art Gallery. The Folk Art Gallery includes five sections: local opera, Yongqiao acrobatics, folk crafts, calligraphy and painting, and Lingbi exotic stones. The second and third floors feature exhibitions on the history and culture of Suzhou, divided into seven sections: Hub of the Nine Provinces, Origins of Human Culture, Majesty of the Qin and Han Dynasties, Strategic Thoroughfare of the Bian River, Legacy of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Modern Turbulence, and A Land of Outstanding People. The exhibitions display over 700 cultural relics. The museum integrates exhibitions, collections, displays, research, and dissemination, offering detailed historical records and rich illustrations.

Suzhou Museum is a sub-departmental public institution, comprising one office and four departments: the Exhibition Department, Publicity and Education Department, Conservation Department, and Security Department. It currently has 36 staff members. The museum is committed to providing free admission, regularly organizing themed lectures, temporary exhibitions, and exchange activities. It has carefully upgraded its exhibitions to enrich content and strives to collect, conserve, protect, and conduct research on cultural relics. With the support of leaders at all levels and visitors, Suzhou Museum has been designated as a National Third-Class Museum, one of Anhui Province’s Top Ten Landmark Buildings during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan period, and a Fourth-Anhui Provincial Patriotic Education Base.

Suzhou Museum has become a platform and window for the research, preservation, promotion, and display of Suzhou’s history and culture, and is a source of pride for the people of Suzhou.

I. Free Admission Hours:

Tuesday to Sunday: 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM (ticket collection stops at 11:00 AM)

2:30 PM – 5:30 PM (ticket collection stops at 5:00 PM)

3:00 PM – 6:00 PM (ticket collection stops at 5:30 PM / summer hours)

Closed on Mondays (except national holidays)
