Anhui Tangchi Hot Springs (also known as East Tangchi), anciently called “Dongkeng Spring,” gave the town of Tangchi (in Lujiang County) its name. This hot spring boasts a long history and rich cultural significance. As early as 164 BC, when Emperor Wen of Han established the Kingdom of Lujiang, there were records distinguishing “pit springs” as eastern and western. During the reign of Emperor Shenzong of the Song Dynasty, Wang Anshi was demoted to Shuzhou and passed through this area. He once bathed in the spring and left behind an eternal masterpiece: “Cold springs are often sung of, but only this one boils like steam. A single breath knows no winter or summer, all yang energies arise spontaneously. People bathe without needing fire, and even insects emerge as if from ice. I am reminded of Lishan Mountain below, where snow blankets the fields in stark whiteness.” Dai Mingshi, a prose writer of the Tongcheng School during the Qing Dynasty, also came here to wash his feet and wrote “Record of the Hot Spring.” The Three Kingdoms’ famous general Zhou Yu and his consort Xiao Qiao bathed in the hot springs, played the zither, and composed elegant poetry, leaving behind the enduring tale: “If the tune is wrong, Zhou Yu will notice.”

Tangchi Hot Springs can be regarded as a unique wonder in East China. The geothermal field covers a large area, with high water temperatures (63°C), abundant flow (daily discharge reaches 4,000 tons), stable chemical composition, and is rich in more than ten types of chemical elements beneficial to human health. The area features attractive tourist attractions: green mountains, clear waters, beautiful lakes, layered waterfalls, rare flowers, precious trees, ancient rocks, and hanging cliffs. It has been approved by the Anhui Provincial Government as the “Tangchi Scenic Area.” Within the 60-square-kilometer scenic zone, there are 63 peaks and 72 scenic spots, scattered with nine temples and thirteen nunneries. Since the 1980s, over ten organizations from the provincial, municipal, and county levels have invested in developing the area, establishing sanatoriums and rehabilitation centers. Currently, businesses from Shanghai, Suzhou, Hefei, and other places plan to invest in Tangchi.

Tangchi Town: Tangchi Town in Lujiang County is the western gateway to Chaohu City, located 23 kilometers from the county seat and bordering Tongcheng and Shucheng. It covers an area of 80 square kilometers. The provincial road Jun’er (Bù) to Er’bà runs east-west through the town, while the Hefei-Anqing Highway, Hefei-Jiujiang Railway, and Shanghai-Chengdu Expressway all pass nearby. In October 2000, Tangchi Town was approved as a provincial-level comprehensive reform pilot town with sub-county administrative status.

The planned urban area of Tangchi Town is 6 square kilometers, with a built-up area of 2.7 square kilometers.
