Memorial Temple of Duke Wu Zhuang

The Memorial Temple of Duke Wu Zhuang is a cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province.

The Memorial Temple of Duke Wu Zhuang was built in the 20th year of the Guangxu reign (1894). Its overall structure follows the style of a grand wooden hall, featuring three courtyards and two sections, with five bays per section. It consists of a screen wall, gate tower, courtyards, wing rooms, sleeping quarters, an ancestral hall, and more, covering a total area of over 2,000 square meters. The temple showcases the essence of Huizhou-style wood, brick, and stone carvings as well as Jiangnan Suzhou-style relief color paintings, with the wood carvings being the most exquisite. Its beams, brackets, flat discs, partition screens, and beam hubs are adorned with various cloud patterns and floral designs, all exquisitely carved. The central hall features massive pillars supporting the beams, with ingenious design and a majestic atmosphere. The wall foundations, corridor eaves, and courtyard pavement are all paved with finely cut and smoothly finished stone slabs and strips, while the column bases are all exquisitely carved stone drums. In the main hall, the front chamber displays personal belongings of Wu Changqing; the central hall serves as the ancestral worship space, with a portrait of Duke Wu Zhuang at the center and parallel couplets on both sides handwritten by Li Hongzhang, a prominent official of the time: “Comrades are gradually fading away—among sword-bearers, who would pity my aging? The war drums beat too mournfully—I regret having delayed in summoning you.” The rear hall houses Ming and Qing dynasty court utensils, as well as calligraphy and paintings by renowned figures and the Four Treasures of the Study, all of which hold significant historical, cultural, and artistic value. As it comprehensively represents the architectural style of Huizhou-style ancestral temples and possesses high historical and artistic value, the Memorial Temple of Duke Wu Zhuang was designated as a “County-Level Key Cultural Relic Protection Unit” in 1987 and recognized as a “Provincial-Level Key Cultural Relic Protection Unit” by the provincial government in 1997.

Protected Area: To the north, the boundary is 6 meters from the main gate of the Memorial Temple of Duke Wu Zhuang to the curb of Chengzhong East Road; to the west, the boundary is 10 meters from the gable wall of the temple to the office building of the Lujiang County People's Armed Forces Department; to the east and south, the boundary extends 10 meters beyond the main perimeter walls.

Construction Control Zone: A zone extending 20 meters outward from the outer perimeter of the Memorial Temple of Duke Wu Zhuang.
