Jingwu Gate · China Martial Arts Park is the birthplace and root of the global Jingwu spirit. It has been included in the 12th Five-Year Plan of Tianjin and was a key cultural tourism project in the city for 2010. The park is a world center for Jingwu culture that integrates domestic and international martial arts cultural exchanges, tourism, a patriotic education base, and a film and television base. It is a comprehensive, distinctive cultural tourism area centered on martial arts, featuring museum collections, folklore, culture, martial arts demonstrations, dining, accommodation, health therapy, fitness, entertainment, and leisure. Through the vicissitudes of time and the great changes of history, it has been a century since the Xinhai Revolution. People will never forget that a hundred years ago, under the leadership of the great democratic revolutionary Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the Xinhai Revolution overthrew the corrupt Qing Dynasty government, ending more than two thousand years of feudal rule and writing an immortal chapter in the history of the Chinese revolution. Whenever people revisit that period of history, they hold deep reverence for the predecessors who fought bravely and sacrificed their lives for the victory of the democratic revolution. A century later today, as the Jingwu spirit of "patriotism, self-cultivation, righteousness, and helping others" resonates and gains widespread admiration across China and around the world, people will not forget one of its countless pioneers — the martial artist Huo Yuanjia, praised by Dr. Sun Yat-sen for embodying the "spirit of martial valor."

On the eve of the Xinhai Revolution, the individuals who influenced Huo Yuanjia the most were Dr. Sun Yat-sen and the Tongmenghui (Chinese Revolutionary Alliance). The owner of the Huaiqing Medicine Shop, Nong Jinshun, was a staunch revolutionary who followed Dr. Sun Yat-sen, and the medicine shop served as a secret liaison office established by Dr. Sun in Tianjin. After becoming close friends with Nong Jinshun, Huo Yuanjia was exposed to progressive ideas and met the top figures of the revolutionary organization. In 1910, Huo Yuanjia founded the Jingwu Athletic Association (now the Jingwu Sports Federation) in Shanghai to cultivate revolutionary forces in preparation for large-scale revolutionary movements and military reforms. At that time, many members of the Jingwu Association were from the Tongmenghui, and the patriotic ideals of the association were widely accepted. In 1920, Dr. Sun Yat-sen attended the 10th-anniversary celebration of the Jingwu Association and wrote the preface for the special commemorative publication "Jingwu Benji" (The Chronicles of Jingwu), as well as inscribing a horizontal plaque with the words "Spirit of Martial Valor" as encouragement.

In 2010, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the passing of the renowned patriotic martial artist Mr. Huo Yuanjia and the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Jingwu Association, and to better spread the "spirit of martial valor" — patriotism, self-cultivation, righteousness, and helping others — to the world, Huo Yuanjia’s hometown, Xiaonanhe Village in Jingwu Town, Xiqing District, Tianjin, constructed a timeless masterpiece: Jingwu Gate · China Martial Arts Park. This was done to ensure that future generations would forever remember this most famous patriotic martial artist in modern Chinese history. Jingwu Gate · China Martial Arts Park covers a planned area of 3,880 mu (approximately 2,587 acres) and includes seven major sections: the Jingwu Theme Cluster, the Jingwu Folk Culture Cluster, the Folk Culture Cluster, the Jingwu Headquarters Cluster, the Jingwu Research and Education Cluster, the Jingwu Resort Cluster, and the Eco-Residential Cluster. The total planned investment is up to tens of billions of yuan, to be completed in three phases. The first phase, completed and put into use in 2010, includes the Huo Yuanjia Memorial Hall and Tomb. The memorial hall is a three-story building designed in the shape of the Taiji Bagua (Yin-Yang Eight Trigrams), comprehensively and systematically showcasing the legendary life of Huo Yuanjia and the development of Jingwu associations worldwide. The tomb was expanded on its original site and includes the Martial Arts Viewing Pavilion, plaza, mountain gate, main hall, stele pavilion, sacred path, memorial archway, and tomb itself. The architectural design is based on traditional Chinese culture and follows the "forest tomb" standards of the Han Dynasty style, deeply expressing the admiration of people for this national hero.
