Xiqing District Martyrs' Cemetery
The Xiqing District Martyrs' Cemetery is a classic red tourism attraction and a patriotic education base.
The Xiqing District Martyrs' Cemetery is located on Xinhua Road in Yangliuqing Town, Xiqing District, covering an area of 30 mu with a construction area of over 800 square meters. The cemetery was first built in January 1949 and was originally situated on the south bank of the South Canal, southeast of Wenchang Pavilion on Shiliujie Street in Yangliuqing Town. In 1973, it was relocated to its current address. In recent years, Xiqing District has invested over 7 million yuan to carry out a series of renovation and upgrading projects for the cemetery facilities. After the upgrades, the memorial square spans 1,500 square meters. On the north side of the square stands a 24.13-meter-high martyrs' monument. To the east of the monument is a 161-square-meter martyrs' ashes repository, which features a clean and solemn environment. The newly installed PVC ashes storage racks are sturdy and aesthetically pleasing. Surrounded by flowers, the remains of 791 martyrs rest here, including those of 778 martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the Battle of Tianjin’s liberation, as well as the ashes of 13 revolutionary martyrs who died while defending and building the socialist cause in Xiqing District after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The main building of the memorial hall covers an area of 400 square meters and employs a range of high-tech methods, such as sound, light, and electricity, to vividly recreate the glory of the Battle of Tianjin and showcase the heroic deeds of the martyrs.
The Xiqing District Martyrs' Cemetery organizes a series of thematic activities every year, such as "Memories That Never Fade" and "We Have Not Forgotten." Through activities like publishing the "Heroes" series of brochures, compiling the patriotic education reader "Xiqing Heroes’ Record," and organizing the "Loyalty" patriotic education photo exhibition, the site conducts educational programs that attract over 40,000 visitors annually. In 2002, it was designated as a Tianjin Patriotic Education Base by the Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government.
