The Hefei Science and Technology Museum serves as a base for science education and patriotic education.

The main exhibition hall of the Hefei Science and Technology Museum has a construction area of 5,822 square meters, with an exterior that looks like a mighty ship forging through the waves, symbolizing a vessel of science voyaging forward. To the east of the main hall is a spherical pavilion that houses the province’s only planetarium and IMAX theater, covering 1,513 square meters in area and resembling a giant UFO, symbolizing the infinite mysteries of science. To the west of the main hall is an academic exchange zone, science and technology training area, and office space, spanning 4,502 square meters. The overall architectural appearance changes continuously with distance and viewing angle, giving people a sense of mysterious and ever-changing beauty. The first floor is filled with souvenir shops, while the second floor features exhibits such as the Four Color Theorem. The exhibits aim to promote science—like the “Pull Yourself Up” interactive display that helps children build strength and find fun in everyday life.

Location

At the turn of the century, amid a wave of renewal, and under the call to build Hefei into a modern metropolis, a modern and futuristic building—the Hefei Science and Technology Museum—rose in the southwest of the city. It stands as a bright window into Hefei, the “City of Science and Education.”

The Hefei Science and Technology Museum is located in the central section of Huangshan Road in Hefei, situated at the heart of the city’s dense cluster of scientific and educational institutions. It is the largest public welfare project invested in by Hefei’s municipal finances since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and its overall scale and facilities rank among the top of science museums nationwide. Since its opening on May 26, 2002, it has become an important science education base and an emerging tourist destination in Anhui Province. It is listed among Hefei’s “Top Ten Buildings,” serving as a new iconic structure of the city’s “Science and Education City,” as well as a new highlight and popular attraction for visitors to Hefei.

The Hefei Science and Technology Museum features a total of 14 exhibition areas with over 400 exhibits, including aircraft simulation cockpits, energy shuttle machines, information technology, mechanics, the mystery of the human body, machinery, mathematics, children’s exhibits, acoustics, optics, electromagnetism, the Yang Zhenning Exhibition Hall, the planetarium and IMAX theater, and a 4D dynamic cinema. These exhibits are highly scientific, interesting, artistic, and interactive, with over 80% of them allowing hands-on operation by visitors.

Over the past seven years since its opening, the Hefei Science and Technology Museum has won enthusiastic participation and widespread praise from all sectors of society, especially among young people. It has received millions of visitors from within the province, across the country, and even around the world, creating a broad social impact and achieving excellent social benefits. It has opened up new prospects for science education in Hefei and made significant contributions.

Every summer, the museum hosts a free science outreach event called “Colorful Summer, Brilliant Science,” offering everyone a chance to have an up-close “bear hug” with science. This event is designed for children aged 8 to 14, with 30 spots available.

At the event, you can enjoy magic performances and witness the beautiful collision of “sparks” and “water splashes.” The “Light” magician will also dance with participants, using movement to lead everyone in exploring the charm of light and shadow. During outdoor activities, instructors will guide students to create mysterious toys using balloons and cardboard boxes.
