At 13:19 on October 28, Ma Yihua sent an exciting message via satellite phone from the summit of Genyen Peak at an altitude of 6,204 meters, announcing that he had successfully reached the top of the main peak of Genyen. One hour later, the other two members of the climbing team, Deng Mingdong and Nimaerjia, also summited successfully. Thus, the first Chinese ascent of Genyen Peak, fully sponsored by BIGPACK and with full assistance from the Chengdu Mountain Club, achieved complete success, marking the first "Peak Moment" of 2012 for BIGPACK.
Genyen Peak is located in the middle section of the Shaluli Mountain Range, at the southern end of Haizi Mountain, between the Dingqu River on the western Sichuan Plateau in Litang. It is the main peak of the Shaluli Mountain Range and the third highest independent peak in Sichuan (after Mount Gongga, known as the "King of Sichuan Mountains," and Mount Siguniang Yaofeng, known as the "Younger Sister of Sichuan Mountains").
Genyen Peak has received significant attention in the global mountaineering community. To date, only two foreign climbing teams—one from Japan and one from Italy—have successfully summited via the southeast ridge and the north face in 1987 and 2006, respectively.
The BIGPACK summit team, composed of Ma Yihua, Deng Mingdong, and Nimaerjia, with professional equipment sponsorship from BIGPACK, opened up a new route by ascending directly up the south face and successfully reached the summit, writing a new chapter in the history of Chinese mountaineering by being the first team to summit the main peak of Genyen.
