Amber Pool

The Amber Pool scenic area is located in Hefei, Anhui Province, adjacent to Changjiang West Road. Due to its topography — low in the center and high around the edges — the relevant authorities have divided the entire area into three sections: a landscaped fountain plaza, a waterside stage, and an artificial stone wall complex centered around Amber Pool, creating an open, rustic-style urban leisure and sightseeing venue.

The landscaped fountain plaza is located at the southernmost part, the central area features a round waterside stage, and in the northeastern corner of the scenic area, a small but deep pool — Amber Pool — is designed using the terrain’s natural drop.

In 1995, Hefei selected ten new scenic spots, and the Amber Pool scenic area, known as “Amber Flowing Light,” was chosen as one of the ten new attractions.

The entire attraction includes the theme-defining Amber Deep Pool and the perilous, serene stone cliffs surrounding it, as well as the waterside stage set within a clear blue pool. On the southern side of the scenic area lies a 60-meter-diameter fountain plaza equipped with illuminated fountains and surrounding flower beds, with large sloped green lawns echoing the Xishan scenic area across the road. The Heichi Dam scenic area, mainly featuring water views, includes a waterside club. At the northern end of Heichi Dam’s water surface, a uniquely shaped and gracefully stretching structure is built right by the water, serving as the focal point of the entire scenic area.

Amber Pool resembles a natural piece of amber — delicate, translucent, and shimmering with radiant light. In autumn, the tranquil green waters of Amber Pool rest quietly amidst the bustling city. Bathed in sunlight, it displays a dazzling array of colors, rippling and shimmering as if a rare, heavenly piece of amber had accidentally fallen to earth.

At dawn, when the first light breaks, the round sun hangs low over the treetops in the woods, not yet blazing bright, nor deeply red, but surrounded by a soft yellow halo, giving visitors a gentle and soothing feeling. To the east of the pool lies Huancheng Road, and the dense woods are home to many birds, especially Eurasian magpies. Every morning, the elegant birds chirp melodiously among the trees, hopping and playing; the Ferris wheel in Xinghua Park even draws a half-circle above the woods; along the edge of the pool stretches a row of weeping willows, always swaying gently in the breeze as if full of emotion.

Looking westward, a cluster of red-toned villas is nestled among lush trees and blooming flowers. Several pavilions are spaced out along the pool’s edge — white structures with green roofs that harmonize beautifully with the elegant architecture. A riverside boardwalk on the Rhine gently extends into the pool, creating a warm and romantic atmosphere. The tall buildings surrounding the area seem to serve only as a backdrop to the beauty of Amber Pool.

Strolling along the winding cobblestone path through the woods, listening to the chirping of birds, breathing in the fresh air, and greedily savoring the fragrance of flowers is an indescribable delight. Swimmers in the pool stir the green waters, creating ripples that instantly bring Amber Pool to life, making it vibrant and dynamic. Ducks swim happily in the water; rockeries, hanging pavilions, and flower beds all contribute to making Amber Pool extraordinarily charming and enchanting.
