Engineering Cognition Museum of Hefei University of Technology

The Engineering Cognition Museum of Hefei University of Technology is a patriotic education base.

The Engineering Cognition Museum of Hefei University of Technology is located on the Feicui Lake Campus and consists of both indoor and outdoor exhibition areas, covering an area of approximately 6,600 m². This museum is a public welfare educational base fully funded by Hefei University of Technology and was constructed and managed using special funding from the Ministry of Education. It officially opened in December 2010 and began accepting visits and inspections. In May 2011, it was awarded the plaque of “Hefei Patriotic Education Base.”

The first phase of the indoor exhibition area of the Engineering Cognition Museum invested 1.35 million yuan to initially establish a 1,700 m² exhibition space, featuring eight exhibition halls including the Lobby, Electrical Engineering Hall, Materials Engineering Hall, Automotive Engineering Hall, Mechanical Engineering Hall, Animal and Plant Specimen Hall, Electronic Information Engineering Hall, and Screening Hall, all available for public visits, exchanges, and educational purposes. The second phase invested 3.15 million yuan to build a 2,300 m² exhibition area for the Engineering Cognition Museum, adding ten more exhibition halls: Resources and Environmental Engineering Hall, Transportation Engineering Hall, Civil and Hydraulic Engineering Hall, Biological and Food Engineering Hall, Chemical Engineering Hall, Agricultural Machinery Hall, Aerospace Hall, Ship Engineering Hall, National Defense Science and Technology Hall, and Comprehensive Science and Technology Hall. The outdoor engineering cognition exhibition area of the museum is divided into the National Defense Industrial Park, Aerospace Industrial Park, and Mechanical and Electrical Industrial Park. It showcases the rapid development of the machinery industry after the reform and opening-up, the application of various advanced electromechanical products in agriculture, industry, and aerospace, enriches the content of the exhibition, broadens students' horizons, and further helps university students understand the development history of China’s machinery industry since the founding of the People’s Republic of China as well as the application of foreign advanced equipment. The guides at the Engineering Cognition Museum are teachers from the Industrial Training Center of Hefei University of Technology and students from related majors. There are currently five permanent staff members, two full-time guides, and fifty volunteer student guides.

After more than two years of construction, the content of the Engineering Cognition Museum at Hefei University of Technology has continued to expand. The use of various physical objects, photographs, charts, models, paintings, sculptures, landscapes, as well as modern technologies such as sound, light, and electricity, has enhanced the level and effect of the exhibits. To date, the museum has received over 30,000 visitors from within and outside the city, as well as people from all walks of life.

With the continuous development of exhibitions and visit activities, Hefei University of Technology will further increase investment, strengthen the construction of the museum and its exhibits, strive to offer rich content and vivid explanations, continuously expand the coverage of exhibitions, and ensure that the museum effectively fulfills its honorable role as a provincial-level patriotic education base.
