The Hefei Grand Theatre is located on the west side of the Science and Technology Green Axis in the Hefei Government and Cultural New District, bordered by Huaining Road to the west, Dongliu Road to the north, and Swan Lake to the south. Covering a construction area of 60,000 square meters, it mainly consists of an opera hall, a concert hall, and a multi-functional hall.

It includes a 300-seat lecture hall, large, medium, and small meeting rooms, a bookstore, a café, a standard recording studio, and Hall 0. The opera house primarily stages large and medium-sized operas and dance dramas, with plays as a secondary focus, and has a seating capacity of 1,515. The concert hall is designed to host large-scale symphony and folk music performances with three-tier orchestration, accommodating 975 people. The multi-functional hall has 456 seats and is mainly used for performances of distinctive genres and smaller shows, with additional functions for film screenings, fashion shows, and conferences. The 300-seat lecture hall, which also serves as a cinema, supports various academic exchanges and small-scale digital film screenings.

A notable feature of the Hefei Grand Theatre is its ecological energy efficiency. Its application of energy-saving technologies is among the most advanced in domestic theatre construction, earning it recognition as a “National Pilot Demonstration Project for Building Energy Efficiency” from China’s Ministry of Construction.

The Hefei Grand Theatre was completed in September 2009 and officially opened in January 2010. With a total construction area of 57,000 square meters and an investment of approximately 650 million yuan, the entire complex includes a main theatre, a small theatre, a concert hall, functional halls, and exhibition areas. The building stands 39.6 meters tall. The theatre is divided into three core spaces: the main theatre with 1,600 seats, the concert hall with 1,000 seats, and the small theatre with 500 seats. Its stage is equipped with push, pull, lift, descent, and rotation capabilities, capable of meeting the needs of large-scale operas, dance dramas, ballets, and major song and dance performances. It allows for quick switching between soft and hard stage settings, with overall technical performance reaching world-class standards.

The Hefei Grand Theatre boasts a high level of technical sophistication. The steel frame exterior features as many as 11 intermediate layers, and the roof utilizes a thickened rock wool metal system to provide excellent thermal insulation and soundproofing. The interior of the “Grand Theatre” is square-shaped, while the exterior incorporates numerous curved structures. Coupled with the streamlined canopy upon completion, it resembles a “wave,” harmonizing beautifully with the geographical environment by Swan Lake.
