Wang Jiaxiang Memorial Park, nestled on the picturesque Lion Mountain within the campus of Wuhu No. 11 Middle School in Wuhu City, Anhui Province, lies to the west of the Yangtze River and faces Zheshan Mountain to the east. With its exquisitely delicate and naturally beautiful architecture, as well as its rich collection of cultural relics, the park has won unanimous praise from visitors. It has been approved by relevant national authorities as a “National Patriotic Education Demonstration Base…”

Wang Jiaxiang Memorial Park is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, a classic red tourism destination, and a patriotic education base.

Wang Jiaxiang Memorial Park is located on the scenic Lion Mountain within the campus of Wuhu No. 11 Middle School in Wuhu City, Anhui Province, west of the Yangtze River and east of Zheshan Mountain. With its exquisitely delicate and naturally beautiful architecture, as well as its rich collection of cultural relics, the park has won unanimous praise from visitors. It has been approved by relevant national authorities as a “National Patriotic Education Demonstration Base” and “One of China’s 100 Classic Red Tourism Attractions.”

The construction of Wang Jiaxiang Memorial Park began in 1986, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Comrade Wang Jiaxiang’s birth. The then Vice President of China personally attended and unveiled the bust bronze statue of Wang Jiaxiang. In 1980, the General Secretary X wrote the plaque inscription “In Memory of Wang Jiaxiang.” In 2006, on the centenary of Comrade Wang Jiaxiang’s birth, to express reverence and remembrance for him, the Wuhu Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government decided to carry out renovation and expansion of the memorial park. Comrade X personally inscribed the name of the park.

The expanded Wang Jiaxiang Memorial Park covers an area of 1.24 hectares, with a building area of 1,700 square meters, consisting of the Life Exhibition Hall, Comprehensive Hall, and Collection Hall. The memorial square spans 2,000 square meters, featuring a bronze statue and a relief wall. The “Wang Jiaxiang Life Exhibition Hall” has six exhibition rooms, introducing the major contributions and achievements of Comrade Wang Jiaxiang during various historical periods of the Chinese revolution. The hall has collected and displayed over 110 precious relics, 130 important letters and articles, and more than 200 photographs of Comrade Wang Jiaxiang. The “Comprehensive Hall” includes a VIP room, an 80-seat video hall, and a temporary exhibition space. The “Wang Jiaxiang Life Collection Hall” recreates Comrade Wang Jiaxiang’s office and bedroom, preserving over 1,200 books from his personal collection, as well as various personal items he used during his lifetime. The Jim car gifted to Comrade Wang Jiaxiang by Soviet leader Voroshilov is also housed here.

In 2006, Wang Jiaxiang Memorial Park was rated as a “National AAAA-Level Scenic Area.” In June 2007, it was selected as a council member of the third Anhui Provincial Tourism Association, the only red tourism scenic spot in the province to hold such a position. In mid-2007, the Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection designated Wang Jiaxiang Memorial Park as the “Wuhu Anti-Corruption and Integrity Education Base.” The Municipal Party Committee Organization Department named it the “Wuhu Communist Party Member Education Base.” By the end of 2008, the Anhui Provincial Government designated it as a “Provincial Defense Education Base.” In May 2009, the Wuhu Municipal Committee on the Care of the Next Generation awarded it the title of “Municipal Youth Revolutionary Tradition Education Base.” In November 2009, at the National Defense Education Work Conference, it was selected as one of the first National Defense Education Bases. In the nearly three and a half years since its reopening after expansion, Wang Jiaxiang Memorial Park has received over 520,000 visitors, truly fulfilling the important functions and roles of a patriotic education demonstration base and a classic red tourism attraction in “informing governance and nurturing people.”

Wang Jiaxiang (August 15, 1906 – January 25, 1974), from Jing County, Anhui. He joined the Communist Youth League in 1925 and became a member of the Chinese Communist Party in 1928. In the spring of 1931, he entered the Central Revolutionary Base Area, successively serving as a member of the Central Bureau of the CCP Soviet Area, People’s Commissar for Foreign Affairs of the Provisional Central Government of the Chinese Soviet Republic, Director of the General Political Department of the Red Army, Vice Chairman of the CCP Central Committee, Director of the Political Department of the 18th Group Army, Minister of the Urban Work Department of the CCP Central Committee, and Acting Minister of Propaganda. After 1934, he was additionally elected as a member of the Central Committee and the Politburo. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, he served as China’s first ambassador to the Soviet Union and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs. Starting in 1951, he was appointed Minister of the CCP Central Committee’s International Liaison Department. In 1956, he was elected as a member of the Central Committee and Secretary of the Secretariat at the First Plenary Session of the Eighth CCP Central Committee. During the Cultural Revolution, he suffered persecution. He was a member of the Sixth Politburo, an alternate member of the Seventh Central Committee, a member of the Eighth and Tenth Central Committees, and a standing committee member of the Fourth National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. He passed away in Beijing on January 25, 1974.

Wang Jiaxiang (1906–1974), originally named Jiaxiang, also known as Jiaose, was from Hou’an Village, Jing County. After graduating from elementary school in his hometown, he attended the Leyu School in Nanling County and the high school section of St. James Academy in Wuhu. In 1925, he entered the affiliated high school of Shanghai University and joined the Communist Youth League of China. In November of the same year, he was sent to study at Sun Yat-sen University in Moscow. In February 1928, he joined the Chinese Communist Party at the university. In the autumn of the same year, he was admitted to the Institute of Red Professors for further studies.
