Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street in Wuhu City is located in the central-western part of Wuhu, on the west side of Mirror Lake. Stretching nearly 700 meters in length and about 30-40 meters in width, it is a large-scale commercial street with comprehensive functions and plays an important role in the development of Wuhu. Since its opening in 1999, the pedestrian street was the first in China to break away from urban infrastructure. At the same time, the street combines regular supervision with surprise inspections, effectively safeguarding consumers' legitimate rights and interests. Moving away from the traditional government-managed model, it has pioneered an innovative path of market-oriented operation, corporate management, and socialized services.

The pedestrian street is a major feat in Wuhu’s construction history. A north-south oriented street interweaves and integrates with Century Square, Peace Music Square, and a children’s playground. A 10-meter-wide leisure strip in the middle of the road features flower beds, benches, as well as street lamps, ground lights, spotlights, decorative lights, telephone booths, and newspaper kiosks, all exquisitely designed and uniquely styled. At the northern and southern entrances of the pedestrian street, there are a set of cascading fountains and a Century Flower Clock respectively. Century Square, Peace Music Square, and the children’s playground divide the entire block into three large sections, each with its own character yet fully open to the public. Sculptures such as “Urban Rhapsody” are scattered throughout, bringing the beautiful scenery of Mirror Lake into the pedestrian street, achieving a perfect harmony between “people and nature,” and creating a captivating “lake-street integrated” landscape.

The pedestrian street serves both as a commercial hub and a great place for leisure. When night falls, the street is illuminated with dazzling lights, resembling a tree of fire and silver blossoms, glittering and magnificent.
