St. James' Church in Wuhu

St. James' Church in Wuhu is a cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province.

St. James' Church in Wuhu is located in Jinghu District, Wuhu City, and dates back to the modern era.

Between the 1850s and 1870s, missionaries from France, Britain, the United States, and other countries came to Wuhu to preach, making Wuhu the region in Anhui where Christianity was first introduced and where the most denominations were established. In 1883, American missionaries designed and supervised the construction of this St. James' Church and the adjacent pastor’s residence, with a total floor area of approximately 700 square meters. The church features a Gothic architectural style, with a cruciform floor plan, arched windows and doors, and a five-story bell tower that stands 25 meters tall, topped with a tall cross.

In 2012, St. James' Church in Wuhu was designated as part of the seventh batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units by the People's Government of Anhui Province.

Protected area: Centered on St. James' Church, extending 20 meters east to the surrounding wall, 10 meters south to the surrounding wall, 20 meters west to the Huajin Road sidewalk, and 15 meters north to the surrounding wall.
