Front Gate of the Government Office

The Front Gate of the Government Office is a cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province.

According to historical records, the Front Gate of the Government Office was built at No. 29, the intersection at the northern end of Huajie Street. It was first constructed during the Northern Song Dynasty (when Wuhu had an ancient city). The platform of the front gate is 3.2 meters high, 7 meters wide, and 18.4 meters long. The upper part features a wooden-framed, beam-column style gate tower with a palace-style roof. On the eastern side of the rear platform, there are stone steps leading up to the platform. It is one of only two remaining high-platform structures in Anhui Province. Legend has it that the Zhou Yu’s General Platform (Wuhu was part of the Wu Kingdom during the Three Kingdoms period) existed before this gate, and the current Front Gate of the Government Office was built on the ruins of Zhou Yu’s General Platform. Therefore, local residents in Wuhu still prefer to call it Zhou Yu’s General Platform.
