Guangji Temple Pagoda in Wuhu is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Guangji Temple Pagoda, Wuhu City

This pagoda was built in the second year of the Jianning era during the Northern Song Dynasty (1065 AD). It has five stories, with flying eaves and iron wind chimes, exhibiting delicate craftsmanship on all eight sides. Each level of the outer wall is inlaid with brick carvings of Buddhist figures. Legend has it that strong winds once blew off the pagoda’s top, causing continuous leaks. One day, a large wok suddenly flew through the air and landed on the top, sealing it and ending the leaks ever since. “Clear Mist over the Red Pagoda” was ranked first among the ancient Eight Scenic Spots of Wuhu. It has been praised as “a red-framed picture embedded in an old temple, with a solitary white pagoda amidst the shadows of pines and bamboos.”
