Longxing Bridge

Situated over the "Zhong" (pronounced the same as "zhong") Stream to the south of Chengkan Village, Longxing Bridge is constructed from granite stone and features a single arch. It was built during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty and underwent restoration in the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. The bridge spans 67 meters in length, stands about 12 meters tall, and is 6 meters wide, with stone railings lining both sides of the bridge surface. Stone steps at the eastern end connect to the village road, while the western end links to an ascending pathway that meets the road at the same level. In ancient times, entering Chengkan from the southern village road, its elevated position made it highly conspicuous. This bridge was initiated by local resident Luo Sihong during the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty, at a cost of forty thousand taels of silver. By the Guangxu era, the bridge had gradually deteriorated, prompting local residents Luo Henrun, Luo Hongqun, Luo Jingxuan, and others to lead a fundraising effort for its reconstruction in the 26th year of Guangxu (1900), after which it remains intact to this day.

Chengkan Village: Located in Chengkan Town, Huizhou District, Huangshan City, Anhui Province, Chengkan Village was first established during the Eastern Han and Three Kingdoms periods. Its layout and site selection were based on the concepts of Yin and Yang and the Eight Trigrams from the Book of Changes, with "Yang" represented by Cheng and "Yin" by Kan. By the late Tang Dynasty, it was renamed "Chengkan." With a history of over 1,800 years, this village was once referred to by Zhu Xi as the "Number One Village in the South of the Yangtze River" and remains one of the areas with the most well-preserved Huizhou-style ancient architecture. The "Luodongshu Ancestral Hall" and the "Chengkan Ancient Architectural Complex" have both been designated as National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units by the State Council.
