Hong Residence

The Hong Residence was originally located in Zhuchuan Village, Zhupu Township, She County. In September 2004, it was relocated and preserved within the Qing Garden of the Qiankou Folk Houses. It is a brick-and-wood structure building from the late Qing Dynasty. The house has three bays and two courtyards, with upper and lower halls aligned, a total width of 8.6 meters, a depth of 14.23 meters, and covers an area of 122.38 square meters.

The structure of the residence is simple. On the beam above the central room on the ground floor, there is brush-written calligraphy that reads “An Auspicious Day: October 3, 1897, the 23rd Year of the Guangxu Reign of the Qing Dynasty.” The courtyard steps are uneven, and the interior features a cantilevered floor extension above the courtyard, designed to accommodate lattice windows and other decorations. It is a typical residence of an ordinary farming family.

Although modest in size, the residence has unique features: first, it appears to be two stories but is actually three; second, the central bay is adorned with double "Three Stars Shine Bright" wooden carvings, symbolizing the grandeur of a prosperous household; third, despite its limited width and depth, and moderately reduced floor height proportions, the entire house maintains a scientifically balanced eave height ratio, appearing delicate and quaint both from afar and up close. Moreover, the owner’s ingenuity is especially evident in the entrance gate tower—its brick carvings are exquisitely detailed, with lines full of variation, and the illustrations above the four upstairs windows are beautifully designed.
