Cool Terrace

Cool Terrace, also known as "Fahé Stone," is located on the waist of Lion Peak. About 200 meters west from Dawn Pavilion, you’ll reach a fork in the path. Continue about 20 steps further west, and you’ll arrive at Cool Terrace. This terrace is square, flat, and smooth, spanning roughly ten feet in both length and width, jutting out from a perilous cliff that is open on three sides. In 1954, it was reinforced and rebuilt on the original site with cement, measuring 3 meters wide and 5 meters long, surrounded by a cement railing, allowing visitors to lean over and gaze into the distance. In front of the terrace lies the ever-changing sea of clouds on Back Sea, while below, a winding stone staircase of eighteen turns spirals upward. To the right above, a row of jagged stone pillars resembling dog teeth can be seen, while on the slope above, the vividly shaped "Eighteen Arhats Paying Homage to the South Sea" is fully visible. All of these can be admired from the terrace. Cool Terrace is also known as the scenic window of North Sea and is an ideal spot to view sea of clouds and sunrises. The Qing Dynasty poet Hu Jun wrote: “No speck of dust can fly into this ethereal abode; only here can one truly feel worldly heat dissipate. A blessed land takes the name of a lay Buddhist; sacred mountains conceal volumes of celestial scriptures. Wind births nature’s music opening jade-like skies; moonrise sends forest-top jade toads in flight. It seems a crystal immortal world—how can it compare to worldly song and dance?”
