Huangshan Hot Spring Scenic Area
Huangshan Hot Spring Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.
There are 15 hot springs in Huangshan, among which the one known as one of Huangshan’s “Four Wonders,” the Hot Spring (also called Tangquan in ancient times), also known as Zhusha Spring, has two entrances. The spring water is mainly rich in bicarbonate, contains no sulfur, and has been renowned for a thousand years since its development during the Tang Dynasty. The hot spring is located at the southern foot of Zishi Peak and on the northern bank of Tangquan Stream, at an altitude of 650 meters. The average temperature of the main spring outlet is 42.5°C, while that of the secondary spring outlet is 41.1°C. The water temperature also varies with changes in air temperature and precipitation. The original maximum daily flow rate of the hot spring pool is 219.51 tons, and the minimum is 145.23 tons.
Huangshan Hot Spring also has certain medical value, beneficial for certain ailments related to the digestive, nervous, cardiovascular, and musculoskeletal systems.
It provides excellent therapeutic and health benefits. The hot spring area now has independent bathing facilities and swimming pools, and visitors can also come here after descending the mountain to relax and relieve fatigue from hiking. Currently, there are hot spring sanatoriums, hot spring baths, and swimming pools available.
The Huangshan Hot Spring Scenic Area was anciently called Peach Blossom Fairyland. Generally, when visiting Huangshan, visitors take a vehicle here, and it is now one of the reception centers for Huangshan tourism. The scenic area radiates outward from Lansheng Bridge, with Taohua Stream and Xiaoyao Stream running through it, at a central altitude of about 650 meters. Major accommodation options include Taoyuan Hotel, Hot Spring Hotel, and Huangshan Hotel. The distance by road from here to the commonly referred to front mountain (Ciguang Pavilion) hiking entrance is 1,500 meters, which takes only 25 minutes on foot, while the distance to the back mountain (Yungu Temple) hiking entrance is 7 kilometers, with several bus services available.
As one of the Four Wonders of Huangshan, the hot spring, anciently called Tangquan or Zhusha Spring, has two outlets. According to the "Huangshan Map Classic" from the Song Dynasty's Jingyou era, legend has it that the ancestor of the Chinese nation, the Yellow Emperor Xuanyuan, once bathed here, his wrinkles disappeared, and he regained his youth, thus greatly enhancing the spring’s fame. It became known as the “Spiritual Spring.” The hot spring is located at the southern foot of Zishi Peak and on the northern bank of Tangquan Stream, at an altitude of 650 meters. The main attractions in the hot spring area include Renzi Waterfall, Sandie Spring, Mingxian Spring, Danjing Well, Drunken Stone, and Ciguang Pavilion. Renzi Waterfall is located between Zishi Peak and Zhusha Peak, at an altitude of 660 meters. The waterfall splits into two streams intersecting at a 26-degree angle, forming the shape of the Chinese character “人” (person). The waterfall is 50 meters long, resembling two white dragons rushing down the rocks, with a thunderous sound, splashing beads and spraying jade, and a majestic momentum. On the middle rock wall of the waterfall, there are stone steps from the Ming Dynasty used for climbing, and visitors ascending them feel as if they are ascending to heaven like arhats, hence the name “Luohan Steps” (Arhat Steps). The Guanpu Tower on Taohua Peak is the best spot to view Renzi Waterfall. Ciguang Pavilion, originally Ciguang Temple, was anciently called Zhusha An. It was first built during the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty, renamed Fahai Chan Yuan by Pumen in the Wanli era, gradually gaining fame, reaching the imperial court, and being bestowed the title “Huguo Ciguang Temple” by imperial decree in the 38th year of the Wanli era. It is now the hiking entrance to the front mountain of Huangshan and the entrance to the Yungu Cableway.
