Huangshan Baiyun Scenic Area

Huangshan Baiyun Scenic Area is located in the western part of Huangshan, covering an area of 1,655 hectares. It stretches from Xugui Bridge over Yunmen Stream in the south to Funiu Ridge in the north, and from Yunji and Shiren peaks in the east to the shores of Shuanghekou in the west. The scenic area centers around Diaqiao An, which is situated at the foot of Shiren Peak, where the Baiyun and Baimen streams converge, at an altitude of 610 meters. Also known as Baiyun An, Diaqiao An was originally a Taoist temple before the Ming Dynasty and was converted into a Buddhist temple during the Kangxi era of the Qing Dynasty. The name has been retained to this day. The surroundings of the temple are serene, with overlapping peaks, competing pines and rocks, layered bamboo groves, and meandering streams. The Baiyun Scenic Area combines pine trees, rocks, and springs, offering a unique highlight of Huangshan’s landscape. The Baiyun Stream is abundant in water, with waterfalls and pools connecting one after another. Along the stream, there are more than ten hanging waterfalls whose murmuring flows sound like music; after rainfall, the torrents rush with a thunderous roar echoing through the valley; and when water forcefully cascades down, it forms hanging waterfalls that hang like silk ribbons, splashing beads and spraying jade.

To integrate the Baiyun Scenic Area, Songgu Scenic Area, and Beihai Scenic Area, the Huangshan Administrative Committee developed a new scenic spot — the West Sea Grand Canyon. “A thousand peaks suddenly part, revealing myriad purple and emerald hues,” the West Sea Grand Canyon of Huangshan is yet another spectacular sight. It encompasses grandeur, wonder, danger, and serenity, featuring a rich variety of scenes — dense forests of uniquely shaped pines, bizarrely formed rocks scattered everywhere, clustered stone peaks, deep valleys, misty clouds, and tinkling streams. The grand canyon lies among the peaks of the West Sea group, stretching from Paiyun Pavilion in the north to Buyun Bridge in the Baiyun Scenic Area in the south. The total area of the scenic zone is approximately 16.5 square kilometers, making it an ideal spot for visitors to view Huangshan from below.
