Pine Valley Scenic Area of Huangshan

Huangshan is often described as "the front mountain is steep, the back mountain is graceful," with the back mountain referring to the Pine Valley Scenic Area at Huangshan’s North Gate.

The Pine Valley Scenic Area is located on the northern slope of Huangshan and collectively refers to the valley between Lion Peak, Camel Peak, Bookcase Peak, and Pagoda Peak. Upon arriving at Huangshan’s North Gate—Taiping, the best travel plan is to enter the mountain from Furong Ridge at the North Gate.

Hiking up from Furong Ridge requires climbing over 6,500 stone steps with an elevation gain of 1,100 meters. Along the way, you’ll be surrounded by competing peaks and ravines, with uniquely shaped rocks and scenic pools that are especially captivating. The scenic area features high mountains, dense forests, emerald peaks, cascading waterfalls, and ancient temples and nunneries. Exotic flowers, rare trees, and a pleasant climate add to its charm. Streams, ponds, and pools are unique features of the area. The valley is covered with layers of green peaks and lush trees, evergreen all year round, with verdant pines and bamboos hidden among them. This area is serene and picturesque, with murmuring streams and pools, ponds, springs, and waterfalls creating the distinctive scenery of Pine Valley. Scattered throughout the valley are ancient structures such as "Furong Residence" and "Pine Valley Chan Forest," which add a mysterious touch to this tranquil valley.

The Pine Valley cliff inscriptions are worth visiting. Visiting this scenic area during the plum rain season offers the chance to experience the famous "Pine Valley Listening to the Waves" spectacle.

Visitors to Pine Valley can admire famous peaks such as Furong Peak, Danxia Peak, Songlin Peak, and Shuangsun Peak, as well as peculiar rock formations like Immortal Watching the Sea, Immortal Paving the Road, Tiger Carrying a Sheep, Guan Yu Blocking Cao, and Crouching Tiger Rock. Water features include Emerald Pool and Five Dragon Pool, while ancient architecture includes Furong Residence and Pine Valley Chan Forest.
