Cloud Valley Scenic Area

Cloud Valley Scenic Area is located in the eastern part of Huangshan Mountain, at an altitude of only 890 meters. It is a relatively low-lying and slightly open valley. During the Song Dynasty, Prime Minister Cheng Yuanfeng once studied here, hence the area was originally called Prime Minister’s Source. In the Ming Dynasty, the literati Fu Yan wandered here and, at the request of a monk from the Dipping Bowl Zen Temple, inscribed the two characters “云谷” (Cloud Valley). Since then, the temple was renamed “Cloud Valley Temple,” and over time, Cloud Valley Temple became the name of the place itself. Major attractions in Cloud Valley include Cloud Valley Villa, ancient trees, oddly-shaped rocks, the “Nine Dragon Waterfall,” and the “Hundred-Zhang Spring.”
