One-Line Sky of Huangshan

The One-Line Sky of Huangshan is located beneath the Wenshu Cave. On the way up to the Yungu Scenic Area, after passing Xiaoxin Slope and the Immortal Crossing Bridge, there is a narrow stone alley flanked by two cliffs. At its widest, it is no more than 2 meters, and at its narrowest, just half a meter. The winding path in the middle has over 80 steps and only allows one person to pass through at a time. As you walk through it and look up at the sky, only a sliver of blue remains — the sun and moon are invisible except at noon or midnight, hence the name. A Qing Dynasty poet, Li Fei, wrote: “In the clouds, the stones split into a brocade seam, never allowing slanting sunlight to nest. Who looks up to see the path through the night? A foot of blue sky stretches ten thousand zhang long.”
