West Sea Grand Canyon

Introduction Also known as the Fantasy Scenic Area, it is located at the foot of Danxia Peak. The *Huangshan Annals* states: “Huangshan has always been described as majestic in the south, elegant in the north, wondrous in the east, and fantastical in the west.” The scenic area covers 25 square kilometers, stretching about 15 kilometers from Diaqiao Nunnery at the western gate of Huangshan to Paiyun Pavilion. The canyon is enclosed by towering peaks and peculiar rocks, including southern peaks such as Stone Pillar Peak and Stone Bed Peak, eastern peaks like Thin Blade Peak and Flying-over Rock, back peaks like Paiyun Pavilion, Danxia Peak, and Songlin Peak, and northeastern peaks such as Nine-Dragon Peak and Cloud-Outside Peak. Within the valley, there are renowned peaks, ancient trees, and a forest of uniquely shaped rocks — you can see formations like “Immortal Drying Boots,” “King Wen Pulling a Cart,” and “Wu Song Fighting the Tiger.” The Twin Dragons Pine hangs precariously from the cliff edge; meanwhile, Danxia Peak, Nine-Dragon Peak, Stone Bed Peak, Stone Pillar Peak, and Thin Blade Peak rise majestically among the surrounding summits. Tip: The paths in the scenic area are rugged, with significant elevation changes, requiring considerable energy and time to explore.
