Guest-Greeting Pine

The Guest-Greeting Pine grows on the left side of Yungu Pavilion, breaking through the rocks beside Lion Stone, and is an iconic landmark of Huangshan. Standing about 10 meters tall with a diameter at breast height of 0.64 meters, it is at least 800 years old. One of its branches extends outwards like an arm welcoming visitors from afar, exuding grace and elegance. It is one of Huangshan’s most iconic sights. The name “Guest-Greeting Pine” first appeared in the Republican-era publication “A Guide to Huangshan.” A large iron painting of the Huangshan Guest-Greeting Pine is displayed in the Anhui Hall of the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, where Party and state leaders have often taken photos with foreign guests in front of it. In 1994, a traditional Chinese painting titled “Guest-Greeting Pine” was also hung in the East Hall of the Great Hall of the People, painted by Liu Hui, an artist from Huangshan. It is not only a symbol of Huangshan but has also come to represent the warm hospitality of the Chinese people. Near the pine, passing by Huixiang Pavilion and descending the slope to the right, you’ll find Beauty Spring. The spring is named so because to its southwest lies Immortal Maiden Peak, which legend says was transformed from a beautiful woman.

Nearby, there are also attractions such as Heroes’ Slope, which refers to a staircase with over 370 steps and a gradient of around 70 degrees. Passing through here, you can visit the Guest-Greeting Pine or head to Lotus Peak. Descending Heroes’ Slope, with the sheer cliffs below, is truly a test of one’s courage.
