Black Tiger Pine

One of the Ten Famous Pines of Huangshan, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It grows on the slope down from the Bai'e Ridge Cable Car Station to the fork leading to Shixin Peak, at an altitude of 1,650 meters. Legend has it that a meditating monk at Lion Forest Monastery once spotted a black tiger resting on the pine’s crown. When he searched for the tiger afterward, it had vanished—only the ancient pine remained, towering and robust, with branches exuding a mighty presence and a fearsome aura. Its dark green, nearly black foliage crowns it like a black tiger lying on the hillside, hence the name “Black Tiger Pine.” This ancient pine stands tall and strong, with imposing branches and a majestic, tiger-like presence. Its dense, dark green canopy, almost black, resembles a black tiger lying on the slope. The tree is 15 meters high, with a canopy covering an area of 100 square meters, and is estimated to be around 700 years old.
