Daoren Peak

Introduction Daoren Peak is located at the northern end of Huangshan Mountain, between the Five Elders Peaks and the Drunken Old Man Peak. It is one of the 36 smaller peaks, with an elevation of 988 meters.

Legend has it that in the past, there was a county magistrate named Hu Aijiu in Taiping County who originally served as an imperial censor at the Eastern Platform in the capital. Because he spoke his mind and remonstrated candidly with the emperor, he offended the ruler and was demoted to serve as a low-ranking county official in Taiping County. Due to his dissatisfaction with the court, he felt depressed and had no interest in dealing with official affairs. One day, he came to Huangni Jian and met an old Taoist priest, with whom he became friends. From then on, he came here every day to drink wine, compose poetry, and play chess with the old Taoist. The Taoist priest who drank and played chess with Magistrate Hu lived in the Taoist temple on this peak. Later generations therefore called this mountain peak “Daoren Peak” (Taoist Peak).
