Dragon Claw Pine
Introduction The Dragon Claw Pine is located along the path to Shixin Peak. Walk from the Twin-Loving Pines, cross a small arched stone bridge, and climb uphill for about a hundred steps to reach it. This ancient pine, around 400 years old, has a thick root system. Its main root grows deep into the rock, while five sturdy lateral roots are all exposed above ground, resembling dragon claws — hence its name. Visitors who pass by can't help but marvel at it. There is even a poem titled “Butterfly Loves Flowers – Ode to the Dragon Claw Pine” that praises it: “This year I seek spring blossoms earlier than most, wading through streams and climbing peaks, the misty path winding steeply. Layers of ridges pierce the clouds where soil is scarce, and the strange pine’s roots, exposed like dragon claws. Emerald leaves and twisting branches crown the cliffs, warmly greeting guests, making passersby smile. The dense woods and high mountains host many fine birds, pairs of which sing their longing from the treetops.”
