Sacred Spring Peak

Introduction Sacred Spring Peak is one of the 36 major peaks, with an elevation of 1,627 meters. The peak is wide at both ends and narrow in the middle, resembling a waist drum, and is extremely steep and unscalable. According to the 1674 Huangshan Annals from the 13th year of the Kangxi reign during the Qing Dynasty, there is a hot spring pool at its summit—although unreachable by humans, climbers atop neighboring peaks can see from afar “the pool’s waters churning and boiling,” with water gushing from the pool downward to the southeast of the peak summit, flowing into the Quan Yuan spring source and then down to Peach Blossom Stream. The Zhou Book of Extraordinary Records also states: “At the summit of a central peak in Ruru Mountain, there is a hot spring pool whose water is sweet and delicious, suitable for alchemy and stone-boiling.” The mentioned hot spring pool refers to this very spring. Because the spring is located at the summit of the peak and is impassable to people, coupled with mythical legends, it has been named “Sacred Spring Peak.”
