Peach Blossom Peak

Introduction Located at the southern end of Huangshan Mountain, it connects to Yunmen Peak in the west and faces Zishi Peak across Tangquan Stream. It is one of the 36 major peaks, with an elevation of 1,460 meters. The soil here is fertile and vegetation lush. In earlier times, the peak was covered with peach trees and was known as the “Ten-Li Peach Blossom Peak,” with blossoms still flourishing today. There is a legend about who planted the peach trees on the peak: one version says that when the Yellow Emperor Xuanyuan came to Huangshan to refine elixirs, he noticed the lack of flowers and trees on Peach Blossom Peak and ordered his ministers to plant peach trees all over it. Another version says that from his carriage, the Second Emperor observed that it stood alone beyond the valley, unconnected to the other peaks. Hence, the poem goes: “A peak content to sleep apart from the crowd, lying in white clouds in the mountains through the ages. When prosperous, all vie to offer tribute, yet you prefer to lie beyond the valley, apart from the throng.”
