Xiao Huangshan

Located two kilometers west of the urban area in Huangshan District, Xiao Huangshan has long been renowned for its rich history, picturesque landscapes, and scenery remarkably similar to that of Huangshan (Yellow Mountain). The Xiao Huangshan scenic area spans approximately 500 acres, sits at an elevation of 220 meters, and features a north-high-south-low terrain resembling a tiger’s back. Like Huangshan, it boasts a collection of natural and cultural attractions such as peculiar pines, oddly-shaped rocks, and jade springs. According to the Taiping County Annals: “Its hollowed-out roots reveal secluded beauty, reminiscent of the extraordinary pines, strange rocks, Jade-Spraying Spring, and Herding Dragon Pool found within Mount Yi (an ancient name for Huangshan).” The scenic area includes over ten attractions such as the Graceful Water Pavilion, Herding Dragon Pool, Golden Toad Gazing at the Moon, Immortal’s Leisure Board, Immortal’s Abode, Side Drum Stone, Unique (Precarious) Rock, Flying-Over Pass, Inkstone Rock, and Bell-and-Drum Tower. At the mountainside of the scenic area, the spring water is clear and sweet, and has been certified by the Ministry of Land and Resources, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Light Industry to be rich in various mineral elements (a Xiao Huangshan Mineral Water Factory has been established here). The surrounding mountain village of Zhuangli in Gantang Town, under the project’s jurisdiction, enjoys excellent vegetation preservation and a pristine ecological environment. In 2002, the village was listed among the top ten environmental protection villages, making this a prime destination for sightseeing, leisure, tourism, and vacation.
