Phoenix Valley is a grand canyon nestled between Pushui Peak and Xiandu Peak in the eastern part of Mount Huangshan. Stretching over 10 kilometers in depth, it is one of the major scenic highlights of Mount Huangshan, a UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage site. The valley entrance is located near the 205 National Highway at Wuni Pass, offering convenient transportation.

Within Phoenix Valley, towering peaks rise gracefully, bizarre rocks are strewn across the landscape, emerald waters run ceaselessly, and lush forests thrive, presenting wonders at every turn. Highlights include the Phoenix Stone resting atop verdant hills, the shimmering Phoenix Pool, the elegant Phoenix Pine, and the expansive, flat Phoenix Terrace. With a myriad of landscapes and charms, the sight of the phoenix in flight brings instant joy. The valley also showcases remarkable geological features formed during the Quaternary glacial period, such as U-shaped valleys, hanging valleys, glacial till layers, and potholes.

The Wuni Pass at the valley entrance of Phoenix Valley was historically a strategic gateway to Huizhou and Mount Huangshan, often contested by military forces. It was once the site of brave battles fought by the Red Army’s Northern Expeditionary Force against Japanese aggression, leaving behind combat relics associated with figures like Fang Zhimin and Su Yu. A memorial monument now stands here, making it a base for patriotic education. Phoenix Valley is a distinguished tourist destination that boasts both cultural and natural heritage.

Shancha Village: Shancha Village is situated in the eastern grand canyon of Mount Huangshan, just 5 kilometers from the southern gate of Huangshan. The 205 National Highway runs through the village. The area features uniquely shaped rocks, dense bamboo and tree cover, and clear, emerald-green rivers. It has been recognized as one of Anhui Province’s “Hundred Eco-Villages” and a “Huangshan Municipal Ecological Civilization Village.” Since 1986, when the Shangzhang villager group developed the Emerald Valley scenic area, Shancha Village has leveraged its geographical advantages and tourism resources to steadfastly pursue a path of tourism-driven development.
