Sanjia Ancestral Hall

The Sanjia Ancestral Hall is a cultural relic protection unit designated by Anhui Province.

The Sanjia Ancestral Hall is located on the east side of Liujiao Tower Square in the urban area of Huangshan District, Huangshan City, dating back to the Ming Dynasty.

Also called Shide Hall, the Sanjia Ancestral Hall is located within the territory of Huangshan City, Anhui Province. On the evening of the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month each year, it is the time for ancestral worship in the hall. The ancestral worship dining tables are arranged in 36 rows, each covered with red drapes and lit with a pair of red candles—72 red candles in total. All the beam hooks are adorned with various sizes of palace lanterns and colored glass lamps, with flickering candlelight casting a radiant red glow, truly reflecting its extraordinary grandeur. In front of the main gate of the Sanjia Ancestral Hall, across Yuewan River, stands an equally tall and elaborately carved, pavilion-style memorial archway named “Huanghua Yipin Archway,” erected in honor of Cui Tingjian, a successful candidate in the imperial examinations during the mid-Ming Dynasty. Cui Tingjian left behind a literary work titled “Huanghua Collection.” To the west of the Sanjia Ancestral Hall lies the Dongping King Temple, and to the west of the Dongping King Temple is the Guan Yu Temple. The Guan Yu Temple is situated on the west side of the west gate of the current provincial grain depot.

In 2019, the Sanjia Ancestral Hall was announced by the People’s Government of Anhui Province as part of the eighth batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units.
