General Xiang Ying’s Tomb and the Command Post of the Tánjiāqiáo Battle

General Xiang Ying’s Tomb and the Command Post of the Tánjiāqiáo Battle are designated as a cultural heritage site protected by Huángshān City.

General Xiang Ying’s Tomb and the Command Post of the Tánjiāqiáo Battle are located in Tánjiāqiáo Town, Huángshān District, and date back to the Republican Era.

The Tánjiāqiáo Battle site is located at Shíméngǎng in Tánjiāqiáo, Huángshān District, Huangshan City. Here, the Red Army engaged in fierce combat with the Nationalist encirclement and suppression forces, particularly in the intense seesaw battle over the strategic high ground of Shíméngǎng. The battle lasted until dusk, and ultimately, due to being outnumbered, more than a thousand officers and soldiers were killed or wounded. Xún Huáizhōu (Commander of the 19th Division of the 10th Red Army Corps), who was only 22 years old, suffered severe injuries and died during evacuation. General Xiang Ying visited Tánjiāqiáo three times and, in memory of his comrades who fought and died alongside him, left instructions for part of his ashes to be interred in Tánjiāqiáo. In accordance with his wishes, in April 1984, General Xiang Ying’s Tomb was built at Báitíng in Tánjiāqiáo. The Shímén Gorge still preserves relics from the battle, including trenches used by the Red Army and the command posts of Commander Zhàng Shìmín and General Xiang Ying.
