Ma'anshan Iron and Steel Plant is an important steel production base in China and the largest industrial enterprise in Anhui Province. It currently employs 67,000 staff members. Over the past nearly 50 years of development, Ma'anshan Iron and Steel (MaSteel) has made significant contributions to China’s iron and steel industry: in the 1960s, it built the country’s first wheel and rim plant, which, together with the “Daqing Oilfield,” the “10,000-ton hydraulic press,” and “—,” was hailed as one of the four major achievements of China’s industrial front; it pioneered the civilized production experience of “three cleans, four no’s, —leaks, standardization, and one line,” earning nationwide fame as the “One Flower of the South.” In the 1980s, it constructed China’s first high-speed wire rod mill, becoming the cradle of China’s high-speed wire rolling technology. Through generations of hard work, self-accumulation, and rolling development by MaSteel employees, the plant now has a supporting production capacity of 10 million tons of iron, steel, and steel products. It boasts leading domestic and world-class production lines for cold and hot rolled sheet, color-coated sheet, galvanized sheet, H-beam, high-speed wire rod, high-speed bar, and wheel and rim. This has formed a new product structure centered on “sheet, section, wire, and wheel,” with cold and hot rolled sheet, H-beam, high-speed (bar) wire, and wheel and rim as the main products. Its total assets amount to 34 billion yuan. Steel products produced to international standards account for 80% of the total output, with exports reaching 48 countries and regions. In 2004, MaSteel produced 8.031 million tons of steel, ranking fifth in the industry; it achieved sales revenue of 27.67 billion yuan, total profits and taxes exceeding 6 billion yuan, and after-tax profits of 3.79 billion yuan.
