Wangyang Site

The Wangyang Site is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Anhui Province.

The Wangyang Site is located on a hillside where the former grain station of Wangyang Village, Saikou Township, Wangjiang County, Anhui Province, once stood.

Covering an area of about 40,000 square meters, the site was discovered in the autumn of 1978. Three excavations took place in 1980, 1981, and 1982, uncovering a total area of 895 square meters. These digs revealed 14 ash pits and kiln pits, two burial chambers, and more than 150 artifacts, primarily pottery and stone tools. Among the artifacts, production tools included stone axes, stone adzes, stone chisels (族: stone radical + 族), stone shovels, and stone chisels; while utilitarian items included tripods, bean-shaped vessels, pots, and jars, as well as pottery nets, pottery balls, and spinning whorls. The pottery mainly consisted of red-brown pottery mixed with sand. The site’s accumulation layer is about 2 to 5 meters thick.

Protected Area: With the center of the site as the base point, the protected area extends 100 meters to the east, south, west, and north.

Construction Control Zone: Extending 50 meters outward from the protected area boundaries to the east, south, west, and north.
